Clive Palmer the Key to Australia’s future

It is a strange that the maintenance of democracy in Australia should come down to the vote of the Palmer United party.

I would like to see the end of the Abbott experiment but failing that there are two issues I am passionate about, Global Warming and the Australia’s cruelty to refugees. On both these issues Clive Palmer is in a unique position to force changes in the Abbott position. Human induced global warming is no longer a scientific debate. It is a fact and it has arrived. The scientific debate is now what can we do to minimise the effects.

If Palmer is going to stand for his election promise of ‘more love and integrity’ promised repeated continuously in the WA senate election re-run he has to take a long look at his attitude to refugees. This is an issue where humanity must prevail.

I will be lobbying Palmer to take a long look at the issues of global warming and refugees and I ask anyone, from any political persuasion, who has concerns about global warming and the treatment of refugees to do the same. It might just be enough to change the future of Australia.

Refugees sending Australia broke.

As far as I can understand refugees attempting to enter Australia are interned in concentration camps in remote places with no form of processing taking place. Abbott keeps the illusion of stopping the boats by leaving refugees to rot out of sight.

Australia is hemorrhages money keeping untold and increasing numbers of nameless refugees in appalling conditions with no hope of a future. It is a feature of Abbott that he made all sorts of promises appealing to the bottom dwellers of Australian society to get elected but now cannot fulfill those promises. Abbott’s illusions are sending Australia broke.

Even if we ignore the appalling, inhuman treatment of refugees by Australia the present system is enormously expensive. How much of the budgetary problems the Abbott government is being caused by the desire of Abbott to treat refugees as poorly as possible? This impacts negatively on the Australians who need income support who Abbott has targeted to pay for his inhumanity. Australia cannot afford Abbott’s addiction to cruelty.

Breaking News. Australian aid for boat people.

Tony Abbott has introduced an overseas aid policy that will allow Indonesian fisherman to update their battered and leaking boats. The scheme is simple. The Australian Navy waits on the edge of our territorial waters with a supply of new boats. All the Indonesian fishermen have to do to collect their new boat is to sail to where the boats are waiting and the Navy exchanges new for old.

When the exchange has been completed there is a short ceremony that finishes with a ten gun military salute using live ammunition and the Indonesian fishermen sail back to Indonesia as fast as they can.

The Indonesian Government is reported to be so surprised by the generosity of the Australian government that it has been struck silent, but inside sources say a letter of thanks is being formulated as I write. A first draft became water damaged whilst being smuggled out by a fishermen coming to collect his new boat. So far the bits that can be translated read.

“mr f Abbo.. Wh…th.. f.c. do  y….. pig.y e..d  f.cked wit… .orr.ble N..is Gov…ment t..nk Th.y are pl..ing at. If w. cat.. t..t wa.cker S.ott Mor…on w. .ill string h.. up .. … balls .. if .. cat.. Ju.ia .ishop s.e .ill be plant.. in . rain fo..est .ith a ba.boo ..ick up h.r arse.

The remainder is undecipherable but we understand the Indonesian Government is highly animated and are still performing an ancient ritual dance not seen since the Japanese made a surprise visit from the north.

In a surprising act of modesty the Australian Government has not chosen to publicise this generous and noble policy.

Human Rights Day now a local Issue.

Human rights issues used to be about Australians looking overseas and tut tutting about how superior we are. We didn’t lock people away indefinitely without any charge. Refugees weren’t sent to concentration camps. We didn’t congratulate ourselves for an 80 percent decrease in the number of refugees seeking our help. We did not send people back to countries where they would be tortured or even killed. We did not live in a country where people disappeared.

But all that has changed. If we want to do something about human rights abuses it is time to clean up our own back yard.

Please don’t tell me Australia is a compassionate country

Tony Abbott has limited the number of refugees to be granted permanent protection visas for refugees to 1650 this year. This is retrospective and 33,000 refugees arriving before July first this year will have no hope of settling in Australia.

How can a country like Australia show its face on the world stage when it allows only 1650 refugees a year to stay in Australia for three years before a review of their status? Is Abbott blind to world events’? We already know that refugees from Sri Lanka will be returned to possible torture and worse under Abbott’s ‘Shit Happens’ policy. No wonder Australia stands condemned by the UN for its immigration policies.

Countries and people stand or fall by their actions. The condemnation on many fronts that Australia is earning around the world is justified. This must be the most uncaring racist bigoted developed country in the world. This is just not the country I came to love after arriving as an immigrant many years ago.

From a democracy view Australia is now the Fourth Reich. In a democracy rules must never, never, never be retrospective. We must never disadvantage anyone under the law by changing the rules after the event. It goes further than that. The retrospective changes effect the rules set by a previous government. That is not democracy that is fascism.

All I can say is long live the British monarchy because it is the only thing standing between us and a full on Nazis regime.

My dog is not pissed off with Abbott.

And I don’t think the cat gives a fig either. Apart from those two rather self-absorbed individuals I cannot think of any one else Abbott has not pissed off. Definitely the State Education Ministers who believed that Abbott would keep his promises over education are pissed off big time.

I doubt that Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono still has Abbott on his Christmas card list. That is off course if he ever had one. Sourcing live cattle form places other than Australia where possible is Indonesia’s strongest response so far. That will definitely piss off the Country Party and Bob Catter.

Today, all over the country partitions were delivered to Liberal MP’s demanding that Abbott does not interfere with the NBN. The Nerds and Geeks are not happy, and nor am I.

There have been large demonstrations all over the country demanding action on climate change, and they look like becoming larger and more frequent. Even the GG got in on the political act (by the back door) with her support of gay rights on mental health grounds. If the GG gets in on the act it is to be hoped that Her Majesty is also not amused.

Then there are issues like Abbott condoning Torture and sending refugees back to Sri Lanka knowing torture is a real possibility. That has earned Abbott criticism from the world press (but not in Australia of course) I am now hearing ‘off shore processing’ called for what it is. Concentration camps filled with unknown, unnamed people, mostly fleeing tyranny only to run foul of the black heart of Abbott.

I am beginning to have a faint hope that I am going to have the enormous pleasure of watching the worst ever immigrant to arrive in Australia self-destruct in the most public fashion possible. Maybe there is a God.

Did our Navy leave Refugees to Drown at sea?

I doubt it and I certainly hope not, but it is not surprising that such stories are spreading rapidly around the world.

Refugees often come from countries where the military control the civilian population. They come from countries where the government is silent, where people have no idea what happened to their neighbours who are no longer there. This is what refugees are fleeing from.

Refugees coming by boat to Australia are being met on the high seas by Australian Naval vessels. Those that do make it to Australia disappear. We are told that they are set to PNG or other destinations and they probably are. I say probably are because we do not know. We do not know who has arrived, under what circumstances they arrived or where they have gone. We do not even know if they are allowed to contact their families to say they are alive. They leave Indonesia and disappear into a black hole.

This sounds very much like the conditions the refugees are fleeing in the first place. Is it any wonder that when a refugee boat sinks and the Navy arrives too late to save them the immediate reaction is that we let them drown?

Our Navy letting refugees drown does not have to be true. It only has to be that the silence of the Abbott government makes it inevitable that such stories would become true in the minds of many. As an Australian I have this little niggle that it could be true. Image you are in Afghanistan or Iran. How much stronger would the likelihood of the stories being true be? Abbott has been Prime Minister for 67 days and already Australia has been trashed in the eyes of the world.

Whatever the world may have said about our refugee policy under the Gillard government never accused of letting refugees to die at sea. Nor was the Gillard government ever accused of censorship. How low have we sunk since Abbott won the election? How much lower can we go in three years? Can Australia afford another three years of Abbott? How long will it take to repair the damage when Abbott has gone?

The use of the military to combat refugees must cease. Censorship must cease. There are certain minimum standards that must exist if Australia is to retain any semblance of being a democracy. In 67 days we have sunk considerably below those minimums.

The sounds of silence.

Do you remember the last three years? Abbott, Hockey Reith and the Poodle ranting on hourly about the state of the economy, the invasion of illegal immigrants masquerading as refugees, turning back the boats, the carbon tax fraud, the NBN and whatever else they could find to bash the government with.

Now we have Prime Minister Abbott.

A refugee boat sinks killing who-knows how many people and there is silence. What was the role of our Navy? Did they try to rescue anyone? Silence. Refugees arrive and are sent straight to concentration camps in other lands. Silence. We now live in a land where people can silently disappear.

Abbott pisses off Indonesian big-time. There is a slight murmur from Abbott about it being a ‘minor irritation’, which was only forthcoming because the Indonesian Foreign Minister did not stay silent. We are learning more about refugee arrivals for Indonesia than from our own government.

Climate change is real and it is mostly created by the human race. The UN says it is a major problem with potentially dire outcomes. Silence. In spite of all Abbott’s lies the economy it is doing well. Silence. Abbott’s NBN is already obsolete. Silence.

Contact with the Government has been reduced to the occasional press release with no opportunity to question. And Murdoch stays silent.

This silence has a name. It is called censorship and it must stop if Australia is to return to being a democracy. I was heavily criticised for my piece ‘Welcome to the Fourth Reich.” Censorship is how it starts and here is it.

Lets do the Time Warp with Tony

A prediction I made in December last year Tony Abbott Santamaria’s Ghost, is coming true. Australia is heading straight back to the 1950’s. The words are slightly different. It isn’t “reds under the bed” but Islamic phobia and the terrorist threat.

Instead of the marauding yellow peril in our North we have a few refugees arriving in leaky boats to bring back the old cry of “Border Protection.” Women have gone from the cabinet back to the Kitchen sink because they are ‘equal but different’ and should not worry their little heads about things like politics. Men take care of the important things and women take care of the cooking and cleaning.

We don’t have to take care of the environment the sky is big enough to handle all the pollution we can produce. Don’t worry about anything we will give you a short briefing once a month on what we want you to know. Control by ignorance and fear is back.

It’s all back to the days of B.A.Santamaria and the democratic labour party when politics as much about religion as it was running the country.

I used to see Murdoch and Abbott as an evil pair of dysfunctional  ignoramuses’ intent on destroying Australia. I now see them as  as time travellers from the 50’s stuck in an age they do not understand and try desperately to get back home. Fortunately the times are not a-changing: they have already changed. It is a different world and fugitives from the past cannot survive for long.

This is part of what I wrote in December.

Tony Abbot was a pupil of B.A.Santamaria for 22 years, and once described Santamaria as ‘The greatest living Australian.”

Santamaria was a extreme Catholic radical who said that all private and public policy must be according to strict Catholic doctrine. Basically Santamaria wanted Australia to be governed as a Catholic theocracy.

In an interview on Radio National (March14, 2001) Fr Bruce Duncan  said of Santamaria.

“I don’t think he went out of his way to mislead and misinterpret events, I think he was just so convinced of his ideas that he automatically kept reinterpreting things to mean the exact opposite of what they had originally intended to mean.”

The same might be said of Santamaria’s pupil, Tony Abbott.

Looking back at B.A.Santamaria is a way of understanding Tony Abbott and why I think that a vote for Tony Abbott is a vote for Santamaria’s ghost.

Problems and Distortions in Australian Politics.

Basically Australia does not have any problems, but there are many distortions that politicians are claiming to be problems for personal gain.

If a person has cancer they have a problem. If a person has a pimple on their nose they do not have a problem, they have a distortion that can be fixed without it being life threatening.

There is no cancer in the Australian economy. If you think we have problems take a look at Greece, Spain and Europe in general. That is what a problem looks like.

What about our Border Security problem?

If we want to revert to the 1960’s yellow peril mentality of hordes invading from the North remember that they would have to bring their own cut lunch and water bottle. Australia’s Border Security is that a large-scale invasion of Australia could not be physically supported by the Australian continent. It is no coincidence that we have a very small population on a very large land mass. There are physical limits to the population Australia can support. If we do nothing about climate change those limits could dramatically contract.

Invading Australia for its minerals would be an exercise in futility. It would have to be a ‘Fly in-Fly out’ invasion. The cost would be prohibitive when compared for the silly prices we are prepared to accept for our minerals.

So what is our border security ‘problem’? It is our distortion of the global problem of the large and growing number of mobile refugees fleeing tyranny.

When Rudd and Abbott claim that this is a Border Security problem they are distorting the world refugee problem into a perceived problem for the purpose of creating a political persona. Who can be the toughest in curbing the invasion from the North?

The reality is that removing the politically created distortion and acting with compassion towards refugees will do no damage to Australia, particularly to our overseas image and standing in the world community.

We pretend we care about refugee welfare and don’t want them dying at sea. Let us remember that if we had not been party to invading Iraq and Afghanistan many refugees would not know we existed.

We help invade a country, kill untold numbers of innocent civilians and advertise our supposed superior life style. We then fain concern when refugees drown trying to get here when they are displaced from their own country of problems caused in part by Australia’s actions. Australia is so hypocritical.

What about the economic problem of the ‘mining boom’ ending? If we are going to sell our minerals first we build the infrastructure and then sell the minerals. The mining boom has not ended; we are just completing the infrastructure phase.

The mining boom has been a major distortion in the Australian economy.

In WA the ‘mining boom’ meant great wealth for a few whilst the majority suffered the effects of rapidly rising rents and staggering elevations to the cost of living.

In Perth we have the phenomena of people with jobs sleeping in their cars because there they cannot find or afford accommodation. For many people it would have been better if the mining boom had not happened.

There are many social distortions in Australia that are being elevated to manufactured problems for political purposes, such as same sex marriage. Being a heterosexual male I have no desire to marry another man. What is it to do with me if other men do want to marry each other? Australia needs laws that end discrimination, not cause it.

It is a case of politicians trying to turn personal issues into political capital. If there is to be equality in Australia then it has to be total equality, not politically expedient equality.

There is one thing in Australia that I do see as a problem. That problem is that many Australians seem to be accepting of the state of Australian politics as being democratic. This is not democracy.

There is nothing democratic about the behaviour of either Rudd or Abbott. They have distorted the concept of democracy to such a degree that they have become akin to two Roman senators engaged in a bloody battle to see who will be the next Emperor. It is a contest between two men each with an insane lust for power who will turn any minor distortion into a political problem if it will buy them one vote.

Do Rudd and Abbott really represent who we are as a country? Is Australia really a place where politicians can whip up the most base of baseless non-issues into a frenzy of fear and hatred? Are Australians are so non-thinking that they can be led down non-existent paths to nowhere by the likes of Rudd and Abbott? If we are we do have a problem. A real problem.

Malcolm Fraser said last Friday that neither of the political parties deserved to win the September election. I am with you on that one Malcolm.
