Abbott’s security laws a giant leap towards the Forth Reich.

Australia is in the same position as Germany was in the early 1930’s. We have a government creating fear and hate as an excuse for exchanging ‘Liberty” for ‘Personal Safety.’ This ignores that Liberty is the way to ensure personal safety. A free, educated compassionate society is the best way of combating radicalization.

What about the deliberate use of fear and hate by the Abbott government to radicalize the Australian people? Is one form of radicalization any less evil than another? We have an extreme right wing government using all the same tricks used by Hitler, Pinochet, Papa Doc and the other right wing dictators who high jacked democracy. We even have our own Ministry for Public Education and Propaganda run by Rupert Murdock copying the methodology and structure set up for Hitler by Joseph Goebbels.

Hitler started by blaming the socialists for everything and grabbed power by having the socialists banned from the German parliament. Abbot of course had Julia Gillard as the source of all that is evil and set out to destroy the Labour government. When blaming the socialist was no longer enough Hitler moved on to engendering hared and fear of the Jews to justify his strangulation of German democracy. Abbott has moved on to hatred and fear of Islam, which is no more justified than the hatred of Jews by Hitler. The rise of Hitler was considerably more dramatic than the antics of Abbott but the pattern is the same: a build up of hatred and fear to justify taking democracy away from the people.

The old story of learning from history or repeat it is terrifyingly true in Australia today. There are so many examples of how right wing politics highjack democracy that follow exactly the same pattern that is repeating itself in Australia, but still we go blindly down the path into the Fourth Reich. Do we learn nothing?

Remember history or repeat it.

New year supposed to be a time to look forward not back. In the case of the Murdoch/Abbott government if we don’t look back the future will be very bleak. The Murdoch/Abbott government is not breaking any new ground. Abbott, as a disciple of B.A. Santamaria has his philosophies laid out in full. Santamaria may be dead but his ghost lives on in physical form in the body of Mr T Abbott. Remember that central to Santamaria policy is that all public and private policy must be in strict accordance with Catholic dogma. Abbott’s radical Catholicism, a form of Catholicism rejected by most Catholics, has become part of Australian government policy. Starting with Howard radical religion has increasingly become part of politics in spite of a definite point in the Australian Constitution separating state and religion.

The policies of the Murdoch arm of the Australian government mirror the policies of Joseph Goebbels. The fundamentals of both Goebbels and Murdoch are 1) work on the week and uneducated. 2) Feed them simple slogans often. 3) Never engage in philosophical argument. 4) Pick one ‘enemy’ for special treatment.

Look back at Joseph Goebbels and compare that with the Murdoch media campaign that elected the Abbott government. Look at Hitler’s writings on propaganda in Mein Kampf and the way to hijack a country is laid in detail. It is detail that has been followed exactly by Abbott and Murdoch. In Mein Kampf you will also find that Hitler followed a radical form of Catholicism similar to Abbott and Santamaria. Hitler and Santamaria both believed that they were on a mission from God; a delusion that is being carried forward by Abbott.

Delusional radicals from either side of politics are dangerous for any country. It is healthy for democracy to have a wide range of ideas and opinions, but there is a point on both sides of politics beyond which belongs to the dangerous lunatic fringe that potentially can destroy a country. We now have a Murdoch/Abbott government that belongs to that dangerous lunatic fringe.

We need to remember history if the future of Australia is not to be a repeat the very worst of history.

Abbott just doesn’t get it.

Mr Abbott, you were elected Australian Prime Minister by Rupert Murdoch. The methods used were worthy of the old master, Joseph Goebbels. As Murdoch’s chosen one Abbott now enjoys protection from inconvenient truths at home because of the continuing censorship of mainstream media, but that protection does not extend into Asia

Rupert Murdoch’s may have enormous political clout in the English speaking world but that influence does not extend far into Asia. Rupert’s little boy cannot treat Asia as though they are a mob of little yellow bogans. I had thought that Australia as a country got over that sort of attitude many years ago. It seems that both Murdoch and Abbott just don’t get it. The Yellow peril and Reds under the bed days belong to an age long gone even if our retro government does not understand that.

If Abbot’s action have made it necessary to apologise to Susilo Bambang Yudhoyonothen he should do it. It is not even three months since the election and already this man has trashed Australia’s standing in the world community and this is not going to get better until Abbott gets over his ‘shit happens’ attitude towards the leaders of Asia.

Will someone please tell me Abbott is a bad dream?

If I was in any doubt that Australia has a feral bogan for a Prime Minister those doubts are now gone. His overseas performance must be taken as his intentions at home. If he knows and approvals of tapping the mobile phones of the Indonesian President, his wife and top government ministers what does that say for our telephone/internet security once he has given the internet and communications to Rupert Goebbels? Abbott won’t have to tap our phones because his Minister for Public Education and Propaganda will own the phones.

Is the acceptance of ‘Extraordinary measure’ (torture) in Sri Lanka an indication of the methods he is prepared to use against asylum seekers arriving by boat or will there be ‘rendition’ of Sri Lankan asylum seekers back to Sri Lanka for ‘Extraordinary’ treatment? We already have a blackout of boat arrivals and no idea of who has been sent to the ‘offshore’ concentration camps. This is a very dangerous situation. Nameless people shipped off unseen and unrecorded to inaccessible place with no way of checking on their conditions or their well being and now Abbott has given tacit approval for ‘Extraordinary Measures.’ This is how it begins. Refugees now, Australian citizens next? Every time we do not protect the rights of the vulnerable our own rights are eroded. This must not happen in Australia.

Abbott was elected because Rupert Goebbels mobilised the minority bogan underbelly of Australian society. A minority acting as a block does not have to be large to distort democracy and it would be untrue to label Australians as bogan when they are only a small part of our society. Does Abbott even understand why he is Prime Minister? He is Prime Minister because Rupert Goebbels used the same tactics as his predecessor Joseph and used the media to mobilise a relatively small block of the gullible to vote for the Australian Tea Party, which made the return of the Labour government impossible. It is an old tactic but one that still works.

Does Abbott understand that he cannot treat the Indonesian Government like the bogans who were used to elected him? We are now part of Asia and we have a Prime Minister who treats the governments of other counties as if they are uneducated simpletons like his own government. If Abbott continues the way he is going in Asia it will take decades to undo the damage he is doing to Australia. He cannot treat Asia the way he is trying to treat the citizens of Australia. How can this be happening to Australia? It has to be a bad dream.

Rupert Goebbels makes writing a blog so hard.

The problem is nothing is happening. I think that should be I am not being told what is happening. It is called censorship and it feels oppressive. In one month writing my blog has gone from a joy and a source of release to sitting at my keyboard knowing there is something I want to write/complain about but it has been sucked into a big black hole.

In the ‘old’ days there was always something to rant about. I could find something in what was said to get fired up about and then feel much better because I had blogged my views. Sometimes people listened and sometimes they didn’t. I never expect that everyone will agree with what I say but I was able to say it, and those who disagreed say so. It was nice to be able to look at what was happening each day and find something for my blog.

Now everything has changed. No one is actually stopping me from writing my blog. The problem is that Rupert Goebbels sticks rigidly to the principles of his famous ideological forbearer Joseph and does not allow me anything to write about.

Goebbels the senior kept a dairy in which he laid out his principles of propaganda  http://www.physics.smu.edu/pseudo/Propaganda/goebbels.html Goebbels the elder began;

Avoid abstract ideas – appeal to the emotions.

Constantly repeat a just a few ideas. Use stereotype phrases.

Give only one argument.

Continuously criticize your opponents.

Pick out one ‘enemy’ for special vilification.

This is only a short abstract but enough to give the general principle of ‘public education’ taken by Goebbels the senior and continued by Rupert with great enthusiasm. Please read the whole article and understand what a threat to democracy Rupert Goebbels posses in the once magnificent country of Australia.

Not even sworn in and the already cracks are appearing.

A major part of Abbott’s rhetoric leading up to the Federal election was to that he would turn back the boats. In a rebuke that has not gone unnoticed by the rest of the world Indonesian has told Abbott, in a most emphatic manner that they, not Australia would determine Indonesia’s foreign policy.

Abbott was told this very politely during the election campaign but he ignored it. Now Indonesia has told Australia that it is not accepting refugee back once they have left Indonesian waters and Abbott has to get used to the idea. As a result that policy now lies in tatters.

It may well have been that this policy was never a serious policy in the first place. It could have been just part of the propaganda war raged against Labour. But whatever the reason for the policy today’s announcement of a trip to Indonesia by Abbott before the end of the month smacks of panic.

Abbott has done another swift change in policy change. He is now no longer going to stop the boats, he just will not tell us when they arrive. This policy has potential for great evil. Refugees arriving in Australia are just going to disappear. This is a policy that many dictators have used. Inconvenient people just disappear. This must never happen in Australia.Australia’s treatment of refuges is already seen as disgusting at home and abroad and we must not add to this by making them dissapear.

At present, all asylum seekers arriving by boat are automatically resettled in Papua New Guinea or the tiny Pacific island state of Nauru in an offshore processing model condemned by the UN, and described by the former prime minister of Australia, Malcolm Fraser, as shifting humans to gulags in the third world.

Things looks likely to get worse under the new Abbott government. Scott Morrison, the next immigration minister, indicated that the public may not even be informed when a boat carrying asylum seekers attempts arrival in Australia.

What is mostly lacking in reporting around asylum issues in Australia are the voices of asylum seekers themselves – this despite some forensic reporting that runs against the tide. Any attempt at rebalancing the narrative, however bold and dangerous, should be lauded. It’s time to move on from questions over whether their decision was ethically sound, and to think about what this reporting might do for public debate.

(Oliver Laughland. The Guardian on line. New York. Australian edition. 9 September 2013)

Add to this Indonesia’s indignant dismissal of the Abbott policy of buying indonesian fishing boats. Not even sworn in and Abbott has already upset Indonesia and drawn world wide attention to our treatment of refugees. Indonesia fishermen show just how ridiculous the boat buy back scheme is.

If I sold my boat for a lot of money maybe I would even have enough money to build two boats. We are fishermen,” he shrugs, “If they buy a boat, we can easily build another one.”

(Kate Lamb. The Guadian on line. New York, Australian edition. 6 September 2013)

Abbotts ethics must be called into question after is Chief of Staff gets off a drunk driving charge after the incoming Attorney General gives a character reference. Is the Attorney General interfering with the legal system on behave of mates going to be a feature of this government?

We now have a deputy leader of the Nationals, Barnaby Joyce who, on Q and A, said that the answer to climate change was to wear less clothing. God help Australia when global warming becomes too obvious to ignore. This sort of attitude shows the lack of depth and understanding by the incoming government of the real issues facing the world.

Barnaby Joyce is also starring in the beginnings of another disagreement with Indonesia over Indonesian investment in cattle properties in Australia. He has come out against it foot in mouth as only Barnaby can when there is no indication that Indonesia wants to invest in Australian cattle properties. With fools like this within Abbott is likely to have a difficult time keeping it all together when he has members of the government who mouth off about problems that do not exist.

Abbott was elected with the relentless help of the Murdoch press appealing to the underbelly of Australia with lies, misrepresentation and Goebbels’ style propaganda. The govern that has been elected reflects those ideals. Murdoch may have elected the government but Abbott holding it together is already looking shaky.

There is something happening now that brings some hope of breaking Murdoch’s strangleholds on Australian media and politics. Australia, and its politics’ are now prominent in world affairs with the help of such media outlets as the New York Guardian and the two reporters who arrived by boat at Christmas Island on a refugee boat. This incident, and the rebukes from Indonesia show how much attention we are getting.

This prominence in the world media is not of a favourably nature. Maybe the world media can help Australia rid itself of the Murdoch domination of MSM and Australia can have a real election based on real issues and policies.

Propaganda should be popular, not intellectually pleasing. Joseph Goebbels

This is a comment I received from zwetschgen after my blog on Murdoch and the Fourth Reich. It is an excellent addition to the conversation so I have included it in my blog with permission from zwetschgen.

“On his Australian social experiment/political manipulation, Rupert Murdoch has already tweeted, “other nations to follow in time” – perhaps he’s has been reading Joseph Goebbels.

“To attract people, to win over people to that which I have realized as being true, that is called propaganda. In the beginning there is the understanding, this understanding uses propaganda as a tool to find those men, that shall turn understanding into politics. Success is the important thing. Propaganda is not a matter for average minds, but rather a matter for practitioners. It is not supposed to be lovely or theoretically correct. I do not care if I give wonderful, aesthetically elegant speeches, or speak so that women cry. The point of a political speech is to persuade people of what we think right. I speak differently in the provinces than I do in Berlin (Canberra?), and when I speak in Bayreuth (Western Sydney?), I say different things than I say in the Pharus Hall (the Party Room). That is a matter of practice, not of theory. We do not want to be a movement of a few straw brains, but rather a movement that can conquer the broad masses. Propaganda should be popular, not intellectually pleasing. It is not the task of propaganda to discover intellectual truths. Those are found in other circumstances, I find them when thinking at my desk, but not in the meeting hall.”

Welcome to the Fourth Reich

Whenever control of the media falls into the hands of one individual the country is in deep trouble.

Every country has an underbelly of ignorance and stupidity that is not representative of the country but when mobilised as a block distorts the democratic process. To mobilize the underbelly of a society there needs to be a concerted and consistent distortion of reality.

The Ultra-right wing of politics has known this for a very long time and mass media has been consistently used for this purpose.

In the lead-up to the Great War the big media baron in the UK was Alfred Harmsworth, later 1st Viscount Northcliffe. Harmsworth believed that war would be good for selling newspapers and actively suppressed news of the high level negotiations taking place to avoid a war. He also spread a vile campaign of hatred to all things German and manipulated ‘public opinion’ against any form of resolution.

Hitler had Joseph Geobbels to run his Minister for Public Education and Propaganda. In Mein Kampf Hitler lays out how to control and manipulate the poor and uneducated into an unthinking political force. Mein Kampf is well written and is clear in its methodology which is one of the reasons it is so disturbing to read.

As disturbing as it is please read Mien Kampf to understand how a country can be slowly led down the path to hell. Australia is not immune to this form of manipulation. Forget ‘She’ll be right mate’ it might not be.

That methodology of Mein Kampf bears a striking resemblance to the tactics of Murdoch in suppressing any information that did not conform to his unrelenting patronage of Abbott. These tactics must not be allowed to continue in Australia.

It is no use trying to fight ignorance and stupidity as those opposed to Hitler found out. Ignorance and stupidity are not natural states, they are learned, and in Australia we have a great teacher in Rupert Murdoch.

The fight to save the soul of Australia begins with the establishing a free and open press. We also need to put in place checks and balances to ensure that Australian democracy can never be distorted by the likes of Murdoch.

If we can regain a free press the next election might be about policy and future direction instead of a free-for-all based greed and a lust for power.

Truth in politics

Thinking of democracy as voting for our representatives is only part of the process. For democracy to work our representatives have to tell us the truth. As ex senator Richardson once said it politicians told the truth the would never get elected. If they don’t tell us the truth we do not know what we are voting for.

Abbot continually uses the ‘Prove you are not a witch’ method of telling lies.

Imagine this is the Spanish Inquisition. You are accused of being a witch. Prove you are not. You cannot even though it is probable that you are not a witch.

What Abbott says does not have to be true for voters to believe him. It only has to be impossible to prove it is not.

When the truth does arrive, such as in the carbon pricing scheme destroying the economy and wiping whole towns off the map the lie is so ingrained that cammot accept the truth. Under these circumstances Democracy is dead.

Democracy can only exist were there is an informed public. Murdoch has taken Joseph Goebbels’ crude Ministry of Public Enlightenment and Propaganda and turned it into an art form. At least with Goebbels if you looked you could see the crude control. Murdoch is so much more sophisticated.

Now that the ‘Public’ has been suitably ‘Enlightened’ it is almost time to establish the Murdoch State.

Sometimes it looks inevitable and all I can say is ‘No Surrender.’
