Morrison’s “We do not comment on operational matters” is code for “some bastard is doing something we don’t want you to know about.” Morrison will claim it is the people smuggles that he does want to know what is happening, but that is not true. Morrison does not want the Australian public to know what is happening. The reports coming out of the Manus Island detention centre raises many questions about the treatment of asylum seekers in the care of Australia. It would be unfair to suggest that the reports are all true in total or part, but the lack of transparency and lack of information from the Australian government does suggest that there is a major cover-up taking place.
Did the asylum seekers who broke out of the detention centre do so in order to escape marauding PNG police that were allowed into the centre by the Australian guards? Were the injuries sustained by the asylum seekers a result of attacks by PNG authorities and/or Australian guards rather than the result of authorities defending themselves? What were the circumstances that resulted in the death of the deceased Iranian detainee? Do Australia’s actions at Manus island equal, as many overseas sources including China suggest, constitute civil rights abuses?
It is the duty of everyone who wants to know what is really happening at Manus Island to speak up and demand to be told. Anyone sees what is happening and does or says nothing is as guilty of any atrocities that are taking place in our name as those who are perpetrating those atrocities. I cannot say that any atrocities are taking place, I can say that Morrison and the Abbot government are taking extraordinary steps to make certain that the Australian public does not find out. Does Manus Island equal crimes against humanity? I have no idea, but I can say Morrison is making certain that it is impossible for the Australian pubic to find out. That alone makes me think that overseas sources know more that the Australian public about the true conditions on Manus Island, and overseas sources suggest that the Australian government has many questions that need answering in full now.
Tony Abbott has introduced an overseas aid policy that will allow Indonesian fisherman to update their battered and leaking boats. The scheme is simple. The Australian Navy waits on the edge of our territorial waters with a supply of new boats. All the Indonesian fishermen have to do to collect their new boat is to sail to where the boats are waiting and the Navy exchanges new for old.
When the exchange has been completed there is a short ceremony that finishes with a ten gun military salute using live ammunition and the Indonesian fishermen sail back to Indonesia as fast as they can.
The Indonesian Government is reported to be so surprised by the generosity of the Australian government that it has been struck silent, but inside sources say a letter of thanks is being formulated as I write. A first draft became water damaged whilst being smuggled out by a fishermen coming to collect his new boat. So far the bits that can be translated read.
“mr f Abbo.. Wh…th.. f.c. do y….. pig.y e..d f.cked wit… .orr.ble N..is Gov…ment t..nk Th.y are pl..ing at. If w. cat.. t..t wa.cker S.ott Mor…on w. .ill string h.. up .. … balls .. if .. cat.. Ju.ia .ishop s.e .ill be plant.. in . rain fo..est .ith a ba.boo ..ick up h.r arse.
The remainder is undecipherable but we understand the Indonesian Government is highly animated and are still performing an ancient ritual dance not seen since the Japanese made a surprise visit from the north.
In a surprising act of modesty the Australian Government has not chosen to publicise this generous and noble policy.
Scott Morrison will now replace weekly briefings with written statements. Just how gutless can a government minister be? This is typical of the Murdoch/Abbott dictatorship, and this is the actions of a dictatorship. How else can you describe a government that does what it likes behind closed doors and acts as if it has no accountability to the people of Australia?
I had many misgivings when Abbott was elected but I never dreamed it could be as bad as this. In four months the government of Australia has gone from a battered democracy to a Nazis government who sometimes releases statements based on keeping the bogans happy rather than truth. I cannot believe a word that this government says.
Fortunately opponents to Nazism have a tool that the German people in 1930 did not have, social media, and as long as we can keep the Internet out of hands of Rupert Goebbels democracy will win out in the end. It is unfortunate that democracy in Australia may depend on WordPress and Twitter.
This government must fall if Australia is to return to democracy and social media has become the only way of getting the message out. Your blogs and Tweet become more important as each day passes.
There are several characteristics of a Fascist government. Two of them are using military forces to control civilians. Another is censorship. The using of the Navy to tow boats carrying refugees back to the edges of Indonesian territorial waters and then censoring any news of the event should leave no doubt in anyone’s mind that Australia now has a Fascist Government. Why are so many Australian’s too polite to say so?
If we are to have democracy we must be prepared to speak out against totalitarian governments. I am not anti-Liberal, but Abbott does not lead a Liberal government; he leads a Fascist government.
If a government is elected democratically there is no complaint whoever wins the election, but when a government is elected on false propaganda generated by a biased monopoly media it is not democracy. It is time for all Australians who believe in democracy, whether Labour, Liberal, Green or free thinking in their political leanings to speak out and say ‘no’ to Fascism in Australia.
The Murdoch/Abbott government will fall. Dictatorships always do in the end. The question is ‘How much damage will this government do before it goes down in flames?’ Can we please try to make the Murdoch/Abbott fall as soon and as complete as possible?
New year supposed to be a time to look forward not back. In the case of the Murdoch/Abbott government if we don’t look back the future will be very bleak. The Murdoch/Abbott government is not breaking any new ground. Abbott, as a disciple of B.A. Santamaria has his philosophies laid out in full. Santamaria may be dead but his ghost lives on in physical form in the body of Mr T Abbott. Remember that central to Santamaria policy is that all public and private policy must be in strict accordance with Catholic dogma. Abbott’s radical Catholicism, a form of Catholicism rejected by most Catholics, has become part of Australian government policy. Starting with Howard radical religion has increasingly become part of politics in spite of a definite point in the Australian Constitution separating state and religion.
The policies of the Murdoch arm of the Australian government mirror the policies of Joseph Goebbels. The fundamentals of both Goebbels and Murdoch are 1) work on the week and uneducated. 2) Feed them simple slogans often. 3) Never engage in philosophical argument. 4) Pick one ‘enemy’ for special treatment.
Look back at Joseph Goebbels and compare that with the Murdoch media campaign that elected the Abbott government. Look at Hitler’s writings on propaganda in Mein Kampf and the way to hijack a country is laid in detail. It is detail that has been followed exactly by Abbott and Murdoch. In Mein Kampf you will also find that Hitler followed a radical form of Catholicism similar to Abbott and Santamaria. Hitler and Santamaria both believed that they were on a mission from God; a delusion that is being carried forward by Abbott.
Delusional radicals from either side of politics are dangerous for any country. It is healthy for democracy to have a wide range of ideas and opinions, but there is a point on both sides of politics beyond which belongs to the dangerous lunatic fringe that potentially can destroy a country. We now have a Murdoch/Abbott government that belongs to that dangerous lunatic fringe.
We need to remember history if the future of Australia is not to be a repeat the very worst of history.
Twenty Muslim men having there passports canceled because they might have a ‘Jihadi’ mentality is another step towards a fascist state. It is a principle of democracy that in law a person needs to have broken some law before they can be punished. That can sometimes be dangerous but the alternative is the secret police mentality. ASIO having the power to cancel a person’s passport because they ‘might’ do something has crossed the line separating intelligence gathering and the secret police.
The next step is that if any of us upsets someone in authority we will be targeted by the secret police. They might lose a job that requires a security clearance. No reason required. There are many ways a person’s life can be made difficult with a government like the Abbott government. We have censorship. We have concentration camps and now we have the secret police. It is important that we look after our neighbours in a democracy because if you do nothing when they come for your neighbour it will be too late when they come for you.
Mr Abbott, you were elected Australian Prime Minister by Rupert Murdoch. The methods used were worthy of the old master, Joseph Goebbels. As Murdoch’s chosen one Abbott now enjoys protection from inconvenient truths at home because of the continuing censorship of mainstream media, but that protection does not extend into Asia
Rupert Murdoch’s may have enormous political clout in the English speaking world but that influence does not extend far into Asia. Rupert’s little boy cannot treat Asia as though they are a mob of little yellow bogans. I had thought that Australia as a country got over that sort of attitude many years ago. It seems that both Murdoch and Abbott just don’t get it. The Yellow peril and Reds under the bed days belong to an age long gone even if our retro government does not understand that.
If Abbot’s action have made it necessary to apologise to Susilo Bambang Yudhoyonothen he should do it. It is not even three months since the election and already this man has trashed Australia’s standing in the world community and this is not going to get better until Abbott gets over his ‘shit happens’ attitude towards the leaders of Asia.
If I was in any doubt that Australia has a feral bogan for a Prime Minister those doubts are now gone. His overseas performance must be taken as his intentions at home. If he knows and approvals of tapping the mobile phones of the Indonesian President, his wife and top government ministers what does that say for our telephone/internet security once he has given the internet and communications to Rupert Goebbels? Abbott won’t have to tap our phones because his Minister for Public Education and Propaganda will own the phones.
Is the acceptance of ‘Extraordinary measure’ (torture) in Sri Lanka an indication of the methods he is prepared to use against asylum seekers arriving by boat or will there be ‘rendition’ of Sri Lankan asylum seekers back to Sri Lanka for ‘Extraordinary’ treatment? We already have a blackout of boat arrivals and no idea of who has been sent to the ‘offshore’ concentration camps. This is a very dangerous situation. Nameless people shipped off unseen and unrecorded to inaccessible place with no way of checking on their conditions or their well being and now Abbott has given tacit approval for ‘Extraordinary Measures.’ This is how it begins. Refugees now, Australian citizens next? Every time we do not protect the rights of the vulnerable our own rights are eroded. This must not happen in Australia.
Abbott was elected because Rupert Goebbels mobilised the minority bogan underbelly of Australian society. A minority acting as a block does not have to be large to distort democracy and it would be untrue to label Australians as bogan when they are only a small part of our society. Does Abbott even understand why he is Prime Minister? He is Prime Minister because Rupert Goebbels used the same tactics as his predecessor Joseph and used the media to mobilise a relatively small block of the gullible to vote for the Australian Tea Party, which made the return of the Labour government impossible. It is an old tactic but one that still works.
Does Abbott understand that he cannot treat the Indonesian Government like the bogans who were used to elected him? We are now part of Asia and we have a Prime Minister who treats the governments of other counties as if they are uneducated simpletons like his own government. If Abbott continues the way he is going in Asia it will take decades to undo the damage he is doing to Australia. He cannot treat Asia the way he is trying to treat the citizens of Australia. How can this be happening to Australia? It has to be a bad dream.
The problem is nothing is happening. I think that should be I am not being told what is happening. It is called censorship and it feels oppressive. In one month writing my blog has gone from a joy and a source of release to sitting at my keyboard knowing there is something I want to write/complain about but it has been sucked into a big black hole.
In the ‘old’ days there was always something to rant about. I could find something in what was said to get fired up about and then feel much better because I had blogged my views. Sometimes people listened and sometimes they didn’t. I never expect that everyone will agree with what I say but I was able to say it, and those who disagreed say so. It was nice to be able to look at what was happening each day and find something for my blog.
Now everything has changed. No one is actually stopping me from writing my blog. The problem is that Rupert Goebbels sticks rigidly to the principles of his famous ideological forbearer Joseph and does not allow me anything to write about.
Constantly repeat a just a few ideas. Use stereotype phrases.
Give only one argument.
Continuously criticize your opponents.
Pick out one ‘enemy’ for special vilification.
This is only a short abstract but enough to give the general principle of ‘public education’ taken by Goebbels the senior and continued by Rupert with great enthusiasm. Please read the whole article and understand what a threat to democracy Rupert Goebbels posses in the once magnificent country of Australia.
I doubt it and I certainly hope not, but it is not surprising that such stories are spreading rapidly around the world.
Refugees often come from countries where the military control the civilian population. They come from countries where the government is silent, where people have no idea what happened to their neighbours who are no longer there. This is what refugees are fleeing from.
Refugees coming by boat to Australia are being met on the high seas by Australian Naval vessels. Those that do make it to Australia disappear. We are told that they are set to PNG or other destinations and they probably are. I say probably are because we do not know. We do not know who has arrived, under what circumstances they arrived or where they have gone. We do not even know if they are allowed to contact their families to say they are alive. They leave Indonesia and disappear into a black hole.
This sounds very much like the conditions the refugees are fleeing in the first place. Is it any wonder that when a refugee boat sinks and the Navy arrives too late to save them the immediate reaction is that we let them drown?
Our Navy letting refugees drown does not have to be true. It only has to be that the silence of the Abbott government makes it inevitable that such stories would become true in the minds of many. As an Australian I have this little niggle that it could be true. Image you are in Afghanistan or Iran. How much stronger would the likelihood of the stories being true be? Abbott has been Prime Minister for 67 days and already Australia has been trashed in the eyes of the world.
Whatever the world may have said about our refugee policy under the Gillard government never accused of letting refugees to die at sea. Nor was the Gillard government ever accused of censorship. How low have we sunk since Abbott won the election? How much lower can we go in three years? Can Australia afford another three years of Abbott? How long will it take to repair the damage when Abbott has gone?
The use of the military to combat refugees must cease. Censorship must cease. There are certain minimum standards that must exist if Australia is to retain any semblance of being a democracy. In 67 days we have sunk considerably below those minimums.
